Xinhua News Agency issued the China-France Joint Statement on Agricultural Exchanges and Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as the "Statement").
The two sides welcomed the strengthening of cooperation through the signing of an administrative agreement on cooperation in the viticulture and winemaking industries and the renewal of the Protocol on cooperation in geographical indications.
The deepening of ties between China and France in the field of viticulture and winemaking is also reflected in France's support for China's accession to the International Organization of Viticulture and Wine (OIV) in 2024. France appreciates China's efforts to enhance the development of the viticulture and wine industry and China's efforts to promote its accession to the OIV in 2024, the centenary of the OIV. The French side is willing to continue to pay attention to the development of China's grape and wine industry and jointly raise the development level of the grape and wine industry.
Similarly, the two sides are pleased to see that the names of the geographical indication regions of Macon and Gervery-Chambertin will be recognized by Chinese laws and regulations in May 2024. The two parties will work jointly to complete geographical indication registration in China for other Burgundy wines by 2025.
The statement also pointed out that the two sides are willing to continue to explore new modes of exchange and cooperation in the field of agriculture and agri-food, and will continue to encourage enterprises and industry associations in the agriculture and agri-food industry to participate in cooperation as direct participants, especially the direct beneficiaries of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries to participate in and contribute to each other's agricultural and rural development.
In addition, the two sides also reached an administrative agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty of the French Republic on cooperation in the Viticulture and winemaking industry.
Over the years, China and France have maintained close trade and cooperation in the field of wine industry. This joint statement also opens up greater space for cooperation between the two sides in the wine industry.
